Applogies from SSAV.
Steb Fisher is 2 month’s late despite numerous requests. He emailed Andrew Graham the week before easter to say that the disc is done and that he would be copying and creating the 90 cds over Easter. SSAV has not received them as of 12 April. Once received, we still have to post /hand out the CDs.
Note: Cost of the CDs was $25 not $35 and is heavily subsidised by SSAV.
SSAV is as frustrated as purchasers but unfortuneately are in the hands of Steb Fisher.liamedlestonKeymasterThe sail nbr was issued in Sept 2001 to Bruce Gardner of Graham Crt Goolwa SA.
I don’t know if he actually built the boat or if he still lives there.
Barry EastgateliamedlestonKeymasterNot sure if 2 vs 4 floor battens is your issue or there are other ones but the requirement for 4 battens predates 1620 by at least 200 boats…early 1990’s.
liamedlestonKeymasterRay Eade built a number of boats that have won the Australian and Vic championship. Arthur Brett won the nationals in 1997/8 (later won 2 world contender championships) with 1552. Wayne Bates won 3 Aust titles with 1610 Outabaloo built by Ray. 1610 was used by Brett Young to produce the mould for the very successful YMS FRP boats.
It is correct that Ray no longer builds boats…he also built a number of successful Sharpies. If it is a Ray Eade boat, it will almost certainly measure.Barry Eastgate

liamedlestonKeymasterPlease refer to the following extract from the class rules.
1.11.3 Options
Without affecting the generality of Clause 1.10 – Options, Alterations & Repairs above, the following options are permissible:s. GPS units may be carried on board for purpose of storing tracks, however information may not be accessed, nor be visually accessible, whilst racing.
The purpose of clause s is to allow devices such as “tacktrackers” to be used and data to be reviewed post-race. The Velocitek device, besides being almost as expensive as new sail, display GPS infomation whilst racing.

Sabre Sailing Association of AustralialiamedlestonKeymasterGreg refer to Diag #20 on page 46
9mm hole. Plastic or metal ferules allowed.
The intention is not to ahve a hole too large that might weaken the thwart.
The recommended hawse thickness is 6 mm.
Most of the top guys tie off the traveller so that you are block to block, although may need to tighten a little when it blows in order to get enough sheet tension.

Martin Sly in Vic is now providing glass hull and timber deck…believe he is supplying timber deck kit for self finishing. There is definitely one boat in vic being built this way but you really need to check with Martin.

Diagram 20 indicates a distance of 508mm between the inside edge of each hole. The diagram explaining the “theory of of the slack rope hawse” indicates 510mm center to centre.
Your safest distance is the 508mm inside edge to inside edge of each hole.
I am sure the measurer would be quite tolerant of a few mm difference…it is not a speed issue but one of stength of the thwart.

National Treasurer/SecretaryliamedlestonKeymasterCongratulation to Chris Dance in successfully defending the Victorian State Titles last weekend at Black Rock.
Competition was incredibly tough with Wayne Bates and Callum Burns both in the race for the title all the way to the end.
Conditions were heavy day one and mixed day two with a combination of no wind and lots of wind.
No doubt there were a number of sore bodies on Sunday night with 6 races acorss the two days.
Full results are availabe on the Black Rock website (refer link in the club page), and a review will be provided some time in the future.
Thank you to all who attended the event and put in a great effort across both days.
With 71 entrants in the regatta, it is the largest attendeance we have had for over 15 years and testiment to a class that encourages having a go and enjoying sailing beyond anything else.
Look forward to seeing you all next year.

liamedlestonKeymasterEntries now stand at 66 and includes an entry from Adelaide…Craig McPhee who finished 10th at the recent Tassie Nationals…a big welcome Craig.
Come on stragglers, we would love to crack 70 entries.
Barry EastgateliamedlestonKeymasterAt this stage a large number of boats are actually BRYC boats who already have storage in the yard.
We also have spare racks here and there we can place boats in.
Add to this that a number of people always take there boats home, then the numbers start to reduce.
We have also discussed the option of storing boats on the grass on the club balcony which has space and given the boats only weight around 40kg, should not present a problem.
We have enough strong backs to man handling up the small flight of stairs which are nice and wide.
It will no doubt be tight but we should fit.
**** Note food will be availbale at the club on the Saturday for lunch.
Sailors will need to bring there own lunch on Sunday.Cheers,
Ashley

liamedlestonKeymasterThere are 64 entries for the 2010 Vic States as at Wed 10 Feb
liamedlestonKeymasterHi Damien,
Once you have been measured and you have the all clear, the info is passed to the National Measurer and he records the data in a central spot for on oging tracking.
The last step is to send out a sticker to put on the boat. I think Phil normally waits for a few to come in then sends them out in batch.
I have a chat to him and see where were up to.
No problem in regards to competing though.
Unless there were issues raised at the time of measurement (ie your boat was refered to the National Measurer because it was borderline in one area), then the last piece is purely admin.
If you have any questions in the interim drop me an email at my home account at “[email protected]”.
Cheers,
Ashley Parkinson
Vic PresidentliamedlestonKeymasterI am fairly sure that there is not a Sabre Class rule that only one sail or set of foils can be used in a regatta.
It is has been practice for as long as I can remember that the Notice of Race for each Nationals and Vic Titles has included a specific clause resticting to one sail/foils unless, as Stephen says, written permission is obtained from the race committee in exceptional circumstances.
I believe this is a throw back to the early days of the Sabre with the objective of minimising cost.
It is probably obsolete now given that virtually every competitor at titles these days has 2 or more sails…perhaps the committees running the various state and national titles should reconsider whether these retrictions are still necessary in the future.
It certainly has done nothing to prevent people buying multiple sails.Barry Eastgate
