As as owner of an older ply boat and reading a little around here, ply boats flex along the top of the board case.
I don’t think that can be fast and I’m sure glass boats don’t flex as much so I would be doing everything i could to stiffen up the timbers running from the main sheet thwart to the bulkhead.
horacedummer06ParticipantYou could try…..
Removing your mast head plug and fill the mast with fresh water from the top (stand the top of the mast as high as possible) and see where it leaks?
Before that maybe inspect all rivets to make sure none are obviously loose or leaking?
horacedummer06Participantyes epoxy can be prone to yellowing and some degredadatio in UV but that’s with substantial exposure, like 12 months solid. Would take most people ten years of sailing to have the equivalent exposure.
Plus if you varnish over it then the varnish prob doubles the epoxies UV exposure timehoracedummer06ParticipantI would suggest using epoxy not polyester resin as it will bond to the ply much better.
And look around for some 135gsm cloth
horacedummer06ParticipantThanks Harold,
You mean a mast step like this http://www.dinghyshop.com.au/fittings/view-by-product/hull-deck-fittings/a4124-adjustable-mast-step
Also in the rules I could find re: stays, it says wire stays of any material and guage as long as they are adequate to do the job.
Surely of ‘any material’ could also mean ‘non-metallic’? For example plastic wire? -
