    Paul,

My appology for the lackluster first reply, you next comment clears up heaps.

As you have pointed out, the Yardsticks only get updated if there is input from the clubs that race them to the YV guy that updates the yardstick. His biggest problem is that to many classes / clubs don’t input (at all in many cases), so many are years out of date.

It will only get fixed for the Sabres if the associations and clubs are kept under pressure to input the information.

    Hi all,

Using this lighter weight material, does this make the overall strength of the board less.

Hi Guys, just logged on after my first sail in a sabre for 11 years.
A fleet of 12 boats in 15 knots on the Gippsland Lakes just can’t be beat. Just like the Nationals of 1994/5.

My business partner Tim Heaney is currently building a boat and plans to run a boatbuilding school next winter. We already have 6 committed to more sabres on the water.

We will be offering kits and will be able to price them once we have built a boat. Idea is for a ply pack, a timber kit (laminates extra), spar and rigging kit. Tim knows sabres well and was a bit of a fast boy in the mid 80’s. Look out. Regards, James (Sabre 90)

    Hi Andrew

We have the option of sailing above and below the bridge during the nationals. It all depends on the weather, but would be looking to run atleast a race below the bridge as a trial.

Also, for those wondering if their cheque had been presented, I will be banking on Monday or Tuseday 12/13 December.
Sorry for the delay but I have been in Albury for Basketball Championships.

    Cheers

Is all the racing going to be on the Lindisfarne side of the bridge ?

It’s hard for Brisbane people to get to Tassie and vice versa – 3 days on the road each way is a big ask. That’s why it’s a shame that the schedule of nationals sees these 2 states being one after the other. But agree that it’s not good when a state has nobody at a nationals just 12 months before hosting – organisers pick up a lot of tips by seeing how other states handle things.

So how do they promote their nationals if they don’t participate in Hobart?

Especially if they want Tasmanian entries?

    Ryan,

Quite a number of SA boats are running Balsa Core Rudders, not sure about C-boards. Macca Hazelgrove at Yachtcraft makes them, and some make their own.

An alternative to Balsa is Palownia, almost as light.

From memory – mine was about 35.5 kg before any paint, fairing or fittings. Came in right on 41kg in the end.

The number of coats will depend on how smooth a finish you want. I did 5 undercoats and 5 top-coats – but with lots and lots of sanding between coats. (All undercoats and first 3 top-coats were done by brush; and I used 2 pack paint)

At present none of the Queensland members are able to go to the Horbart nationals this year. However we all look forward to seeing you at the Queensland nationals next year.

On the subject of fitting cleats to the foredeck:

As Andrew said, 18 months back, it CAN be a pain in the butt.

Reaching in through the Inspection Port is heaps easier if:

    1. You can remove the port and give yourself a bigger hole to reach through, and

    2. Put the boat on its side on the grass, against a fence or something. That way you are not trying to bend down and reach back up – You are just kneeling or standing beside and reaching in and around.

    Regards all,

    Hi All.

In regards to the Sabre / Pacer question:

Any boat running a Main Jib combination will usually out point a Single sail boat like a Sabre.

The only way you will ever get a real comparison between the two is to stick a Sabre Rig on a Pacer, sail it single handed, and see how the two hulls compare that way.

I guess a Sabre would point as well of better than a Pacer if we stuck on a Jib and reach or run better than a Pacer if we added a Spinnaker as well.

Damn, I’ve forgotten what the whole point of this argument was!

How about we start comparing Herons as well, or 420’s.

    Hmmmm
