Nana
It is a nationals so I will be there (ant remember the year I last missed one – think it was Speirs Point. I have booked a cabin for Meryl and myself so may have a spare bed if someone is desperate.
Stephenharvey6111ParticipantThe rule is simple – only allowed one sail – but in case of damage with permission may change the sail.
Stephen Earlyharvey6111ParticipantThe regatta is now over with 2 days and 4 races in light to very light breezes. To say I was not impressed is an understatement. Andy Mac finished 4th overall and 2nd in his age group. Peter Reid was second in his age group and David Wood First and John Dick Second in their age group. A successful regatta in trying conditions and mostly ewither a bit too much wind or hardly any at all. Andy Morrison won a gold in double Kiaking so a good week by all.
Stephen Earlyharvey6111ParticipantYesterday saw another day of strong winds and good sailing. Andy Mac was the first sabre home in each of the three heats in winds from 18 to 30 knots. He still holds 3rd place overall and 1st iun his age group and impressed the two young girl reporters and had a large spread in the local Advertiser. Susannah had a disaster yesterday being T boned while on starboard tack by a contender. Her husband was sailing the contender and I think spent the day trying to patch the boat. Hopefully she will be back tomorrow (today was a layday).
harvey6111ParticipantWe only got one heat in on Monday with winds between 10 and 30+ knots and a 150 degree wind shift. Andy Mac again cleanead up the sabres but no yardstick results are out as yet. Last night the sabre sailors had a pleasant dinner at a local pub – gainning strength for today which promises to be a 3 heat day.
Stephen Earlyharvey6111ParticipantI tried to avoid welding for the trolleys I have made and have made them from rectangular tube , stainless bolts with ply for the boat carrying. They work well and can be made by anyone. If you can weld – look at Johns trolleys but I wanted something that was not welded and would not break. You are welcome to look at mine anytime.
Stephen Earlyharvey6111ParticipantVictorian Committee
I was looking forwards to sailing down at Paynesville but realise the problems you have had. I must admit in my humble opinion you have chosen one of the best places to sail on the bay. Fairly flat water and not huge tide as well as normally steady winds and limited local effects. Those that want a holiday can stay on the lovely Mornington Peninsula. I can even stay home and travel which means my plants will be better looked after. I expect it will be a great titles and I plan to be there.
Stephen Earlyharvey6111ParticipantGate starts were used in a very early Victorian championships in I believe in 1979. I do not know of others as I think I took a break from sailing sabres about that time and went racing arrows. The reason for the introduction was the farce that happened the year before when the committee could not control the fleet and after a number of generals the fleet was sent off with a large number of us over the line. A few were dsq but the majority of us were able to hide in the pac. At those times well over 100 boats turned up for a title.
Stephen Earlyharvey6111ParticipantMatt
What are you trying to do ruin the reputation that Tassie sailors dont travel. I guess you are just trying to make it hard on us guys and I will finish lower (numerically) than I had hoped. Besides that how will I get much peace with that many Tassie sailors around. Actually I will look forwards to having so many of you there – it should make a great nationals – dont know what I would do after christmas if I didnt go to the titles.

Stephen Eralyharvey6111ParticipantHi again
Have the answer – it turned up in the mail today. They must read the forum.
Stephen Earlyharvey6111ParticipantAndrew
My understanding of the rules is that you are not allowed to do anything. If your bend is excessive it is probably because you are using a light section. A simple solution – buy a heavier section and change your fittings over. Personally I think this a good rule as it encourages you to use a heavier section which is less likely to break.
Stephen Earyharvey6111ParticipantSorry – doing it quickly at school. I meant putty but must be bgetting old. Do know of one boat that had such a big concave (deliberate) that they used balsa wood. I would use one of the super light fillers such as micro balloons. It is from experience all above the waterline.
Stephenharvey6111ParticipantMatt
What I would be doing is cheering. The putting will go above the waterline and have no effect on the boat shape which will now have a beautiful fine bow. In the old days this was done deliberately.
Stephen Earlyharvey6111ParticipantWell I guess I best list my Nationals as others have:
Lake Wallagoot NSW -1979
Lindisfarne Tas – 1995
Runaway Bay Qld -1996
Largs Bay SA – 1997
Black Rock Vic – 1998
Toukley NSW – 1999
Lindisfarne Tas – 2000
Cleveland Qld – 2001
Brighton-Seacliffe SA – 2002
Twofold Bay NSW – 2004
Lindisfarne Tas – 2005
Cleveland Qld – 2006Others I have attended but not sailed in are:
Lake Boga Vic – 1990
Brighton-Seacliffe SA – 1992
Gippsland Lakes Vic – 1994
Blairgowrie Vic – 2003That means that I have attended every Nationals since 1994 and only missed 2 since 1990 – as well as I trhink the only person who sailed the 1979 Lake Wallagoot titles to still be sailing sabres – but as they say – When on a good thing stick to it
