Hi All,
*** Amendment 11/02: Food will be availabe at the BRYC canteen on the Saturday. Sailors will however need to bring lunch on the Sunday.
The Vic states is just over a week away and I thought I post some helpful information here.
Lunch:
It would be advisable to pack a lunch for the day. The club canteen will most likely not be open as it’s voluntary operated and many of the members will be away at other events. There is a fish and chip shop next to the club which is one option for those of you that need the extra weight As a last resort the Black Rock shops are a few minutes drive away.Tailors/Parking:
Parking is $9 a day or free “up top” on Beach Rd or side streets if you’re willing to walk up/down the hill. There is some tailor spots down next to the club, however be prepared to do a drop-n-run if you’re late and miss one of these spots. A number of the Black Rock regulars will be around to help out and guide people on where best to park.Boat Storage:
We’ll do our best to store all boats in the club’s locked area. There will be no secured spots in the compound for tailors overnight.Late Entries:
Yes. Entries are still being taken, even on the day, so I expect to see everyone there!Cheers,
Chris

February 9, 2010 at 9:00 am #7378julianekennion4ParticipantHi All,
Rumor has it that we’re nudging 70 entries. It would be great to break 70 for a state championship so we can show why we’re the state’s leading class. If you know of any members at your local club that is not participating, make sure you give them a call and try and convince them to show!
For those who live local in Melbourne, BRYC has Thursday night sailing starting at approx 6:30 pm. If you’re keen on getting some venue practice in, come and join us for the race on Thursday night.
See you all on the weekend!
Cheers,
Chris

February 10, 2010 at 7:45 am #7379sabre_adminKeymasterDavid Wood and I attended a classes meeting last tuesday- and were informed that the club was going to make an effort to have enough food on saturday to cater for those wanting lunch however at this stage provision for sunday lunch has not been made
on the subject of security it is unlikely that the entire fleet will able to be accomodated within the security compound at the club, but the club now has an effective lighting system illuminating the front of the clubhouse more info will be available on saturdayFebruary 10, 2010 at 8:20 am #7380liamedlestonKeymasterThere are 64 entries for the 2010 Vic States as at Wed 10 Feb
February 10, 2010 at 9:00 pm #7381nereidamayne44ParticipantWith 64 Entries would the association consider hiring a security guard to protect the boats that don’t fit in the compound? I can’t imagine one guard being overly expensive… much less than the potential losses/damage of boats and gear.
February 11, 2010 at 1:19 am #7382liamedlestonKeymasterAt this stage a large number of boats are actually BRYC boats who already have storage in the yard.
We also have spare racks here and there we can place boats in.
Add to this that a number of people always take there boats home, then the numbers start to reduce.
We have also discussed the option of storing boats on the grass on the club balcony which has space and given the boats only weight around 40kg, should not present a problem.
We have enough strong backs to man handling up the small flight of stairs which are nice and wide.
It will no doubt be tight but we should fit.
**** Note food will be availbale at the club on the Saturday for lunch.
Sailors will need to bring there own lunch on Sunday.Cheers,
Ashley

February 11, 2010 at 9:09 am #7383liamedlestonKeymasterEntries now stand at 66 and includes an entry from Adelaide…Craig McPhee who finished 10th at the recent Tassie Nationals…a big welcome Craig.
Come on stragglers, we would love to crack 70 entries.
Barry EastgateFebruary 15, 2010 at 12:36 am #7384liamedlestonKeymasterCongratulation to Chris Dance in successfully defending the Victorian State Titles last weekend at Black Rock.
Competition was incredibly tough with Wayne Bates and Callum Burns both in the race for the title all the way to the end.
Conditions were heavy day one and mixed day two with a combination of no wind and lots of wind.
No doubt there were a number of sore bodies on Sunday night with 6 races acorss the two days.
Full results are availabe on the Black Rock website (refer link in the club page), and a review will be provided some time in the future.
Thank you to all who attended the event and put in a great effort across both days.
With 71 entrants in the regatta, it is the largest attendeance we have had for over 15 years and testiment to a class that encourages having a go and enjoying sailing beyond anything else.
Look forward to seeing you all next year.
