For all those who are thinking of building their own Ply Sabre, Good quality 4mm Gaboon is about $73 per sheet in SA at Duck Flat – Wooden Boats.
I am not sure of the price elsewhere in the eastern states.
In WA, we have a place called AUSTIM (They are in the phone book or dial 1223). They import a Gaboon Ply equivalent imported directly from SE Asia (Same Tree just using the local name for it), and we can get it at $25 per sheet if you buy a full pack of 15 sheets.
I’m not sure what it would cost to transport across the country, you would have to check that with them, but it three people are planning to build and split the cost it means Ply for the hull at approx 1/3 the cost of SA Gaboon.
I have near finished my second Sabre using the WA product and found no difference from the stuff I had shipped from SA for the first
