Sabre class sailors are invited to sail in Albert Sailing Club’s annual Winter regatta which is being sailed on Albert Park Lake on Saturday 19th (pm) and Sunday 20th June (am and pm). This is the weekend after the Queen’s Birthday weekend, and a week before the mid year school holidays commence.
The regatta follows a short race series format with races of 30 to 45 minutes in three sessions. There will be an Information Session at 1pm on Saturday followed by the first session from 1.45. There are then races scheduled for Sunday morning and afternoon. The format and venue will suit sailors of all levels of experience. Courses will be sailed in the northern half of the lake, and will generally be triangles or trapezoids depending on wind direction and conditions.
On the Saturday night there will be a Sailing Rules and Protests session from 6pm to 7.30 pm, preceded by a club BBQ. This will be a session for sailors of all levels of experience lead by an experienced Yachting Australia national judge. It is a good opportunity to hear about the current Rules and have questions about them answered.
Preferred Regatta entry is on-line (with a discount entry fee) by 9:00 pm on Wednesday 16 June, or Entry on Regatta day. Go to http://www.albertsc.org.au for a copy of the Regatta documentation including an Information flyer, Notice of Race, and Entry Form links. Entry fees can be paid on-line, or on the day, irrespective of the method of entry.
This year for senior classes there will be an Open category and for classes with strong fleets, divisions for skippers in Masters (45 – 54 years of age) and Grand Masters (55+ years) categories.
This has been a popular regatta for over 25 years. It is part of Albert Sailing Club’s winter sailing season which commenced in early May and continues through each weekend until the end of September. Visitors are welcome to sail in other club events during the winter season, including heats 3 and 7 of the Sabre Winter Series 2010, on 26 June and 24 July respectively.
The members of the Albert Sailing Club look forward to another successful Albert Sailing Club regatta, and will as always provide a warm welcome to visitors.
