The winter season of Albert Sailing Club, on Albert Park Lake (VIC), commences on Saturday 1 May and runs through to September. On behalf of the committee of Albert Sailing Club we would like to extend an invitation to members of the Sabre Sailing Association to participate in Albert Sailing Club’s winter season. The water level at the lake is at full capacity, so we are expecting good sailing conditions.

    The winter sailing program includes:
    * An 8 race Winter series from Saturday 1 May to Saturday 24 July. There is a break every two or three weeks for a club trophy race or other event.
    * The annual Albert Sailing Club regatta on Saturday 19 June (p.m.) and Sunday 20 June (a.m. and p.m.). This is a popular short race regatta which in 2010 is a week after the June long weekend and a week before the mid year school holidays. The regatta can be entered either as part of the winter season or separately as a single stand-alone event. We are planning to promote divisions for Masters (45 – 54 years) and Grand Masters (55 years+), with a Division trophy where there are 5 or more skippers in the age category in the class.
    * A 4 race Bill Hooper Series in August and September.

There are options of sailing the full season, 3 or 4 races or just the Club’s annual two day regatta in mid June. Albert Sailing Club has active fleets sailing each week throughout the year, which increase over winter as sailors from other Melbourne clubs join to sail races in our winter season.

On the Albert Sailing Club internet site http://www.albertsc.org.au under the left-hand side menu The Club > Winter Membership you can find information including clickable links to:
    * the club’s week by week program (alternative format under Events tab http://albertsc.org.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=181&Itemid=116)
    * A 2010 Winter Membership application form. This can be completed and mailed to the Secretary, Albert Sailing Aquatic Drive, Albert Park Lake, South Melbourne, 3205. Alternatively this can handed to the Secretary or his alternate on or before your first race day.
    * The 2010 Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.

All club races have a start time of 2pm for Division 1, with 3 minute intervals for following divisions. (start times, NOR and SI for the Regatta will be posted around early June).

We would be pleased to discuss any specific dates for Class Association Travellers Races or additional activities. We will try to keep this forum thread updated as details develop.

Hello everyone, please see below from the ASC Rear Commodore, Rod Thomas:

Sabre Winter Series Race (H7) at Albert Sailing Club on 24 July

Heat 7 of the Sabre Winter Series is to be sailed at Albert Sailing Club on Albert Park Lake on Saturday 24 July. The Information Session is at 1.15pm for a 2.00pm first Division start. Another good Sabre fleet is expected with the home club’s Sabre fleet joined by visiting Sabres from other clubs. If you are participating, there is plenty of room next to and in front of the club for rigging of boats. Don’t forget to purchase a $2 all day parking ticket from the machines in the parking area behind the club, and display on your dashboard.

Report of ASC Regatta results and photos etc

Albert Sailing Club’s annual winter regatta on Albert Park Lake on 19 and 20 June was a well attended and successful regatta with over 130 monohull dinghies competing in a short race format series of seven 30 – 40 minute races over 1.5 days. Racing was concentrated in the four most active dinghy sailing classes currently racing in Victoria – the Laser, Impulse, Sabre and junior Optimist classes.

There were 21 entries in the Sabre class across the weekend, with 13 Sabres sailing both days. Three boats from Black Rock dominated racing with the current State Sabre champion Chris Dance the overall winner. Chris has sailed at Albert since his junior days and used his experience in shifting breezes to his advantage well. Nick Mouat and Gary McLennan had two heat wins each, and finished close behind Chris in the final placings. Ron Fergusson from Albert finished fourth overall and won the “Masters” 45 – 55 years age group, with Harold Medd 8th and first Sabre Grand Master. James McLennan sailed well to win the Regatta in the Optimist class – watch out Dad !

Full results and a range of photos of the Albert Sailing Club winter regatta, including some good ones of Sabre sailors, are on http://www.albertsc.org.au. The regatta and the Sabre class winter series races are part of Albert Sailing Club’s annual winter season which runs through to late September. Visitors are always welcome either on a daily Visitor entry or a winter season membership.
