Sabre 1778 – Espresso – 3 x National Championship Boat (incl. trailer)
I thought I’d never sell Espresso as it’s one of the boats from the super fast batch of YMS hulls. I haven’t sailed it in years and it’s a shame to see such a fantastic boat not getting used. I’m back sailing the Tasar with Pete and this is consuming all the time so I can’t see this change. We also need to make some room in the garage for a 2nd Tasar so we have a spare boat to use while shipping the other to international regattas.
Espresso has won three National Championships. It’s one of a few YMS hulls produced where Brett Young used lighter foam on the sides, and the side tank inwales. It was well underweight – so far so that the thwart region had to be “reinforced” to bring it up within the allowed weight corrector range. This means that it’s super light in the ends. The mast is some of the boat’s magic too. It’s a Keeley section that was hand selected and the lightest of the batch. The Irwin sails are both cut to match the mast round.
Nothing proves a boat’s pedigree more than demonstrating it wins across multiple sailors. It’s last major regatta was the 2016/2017 Nationals where I loaned it to a friend, along with its meticulous rigging and tuning guide, and said “follow this and you’ll win”. Sure enough it did!
The boat is being sold exactly as I’ve sailed it with all good race gear. It includes a top quality road trailer with a flip up lockable storage compartment to safely store foils and sails.
