The 2024/25 Sabre fleet at PDSC has increased to about 28 registered boats, with several new club members joining to participate in the Perth Sabre Nationals. New sailors include Steve and Cam Elliot, Louis Scarrold and Ed Raby, all of whom have returned to the sport after extended breaks. Sam Rose has also joined the fleet, splitting time between sailing the Sabre and i14 skiff.
The highlight of the season to date has been the Sabre Nationals, which were hosted at PDSC by WA Sabre. A total of eleven PDSC sailors finished in the top twenty, with our top performers being Tony Carr (5), Craig Hughes (6), Ed Bannerman (9) and Liz Roberts (10). Also notable was a convincing win by Liz Roberts for the overall Ladies’ Title. The fleet extends its gratitude to WA Sabre for hosting the regatta.
Several sailors have stepped back from sailing since the completion of the Sabre Nationals, with Andrew Rose splitting time with the Javelin class, Jonas Nilsson returning to Sweden, and Rob Cull retiring. Despite this, the fleet remains healthy with many sailors having improved significantly through the regatta and the fleet presenting a great option for folks looking to return to the sport after a break.
