The rescheduled first two heats of the 20/2021 SA Sabre State Titles were sailed on the waters of the Port River on Sunday 17 January 2021 and hosted by the Port River Sailing Club after being deferred from November due to Covid. Fourteen Boats rigged on the beach for the afternoons sailing. With a 15 – 20 knot SW forecast there was a little trepidation as many clubs had been blown out on the Saturday when the breeze had filled in more than forecast, however this was unfounded with forecast being accurate. The Race Officer set a windward leeward course with three laps for the first race taking just over an hour, the second race was shortened to two laps to the relief of those who were a bit puffed after the first race. The conditions added an extra level of challenge for those used to sailing on the Gulf, with gusts, lulls and shifts creating different tactical environment. An enjoyable days sailing was had by all.
