Victorian Sabres had their annual teams race on Saturday 18 March at Mordialloc Sailing Club. The successful team members were Phil Balcome, Susannah Gillam, Fiona McCulloch and Megan Delange, who had to leave before the team photo. As well as good looks, Phil provided additional strength and direction to the team, and the ladies were prepared to grant him the title of “defacto lady”.
Prior to the racing, Russell Rooney, our Vic Sabre President, gave an interesting and informative interactive talk on areas for Sabre sailing improvement.
In the afternoon, two races took place in a light and variable sea breeze and overall results were decided on placing of the top three of each four member team. Teams were selected to include skippers in each team from various clubs, each with a wide range of experience and abilities so that we aim for even racing across the spectrum.
The ladies team won comfortably on points, or as Fiona said, “we smashed em’.
It was a very enjoyable event and thanks to Peter White and the Mordialloc Sailing Club for their organisation and hospitality..
