10 Sabres, including two visitors from Perth Dinghy Club and Maylands YC, sailed a course within the Reach. First around Lyle mark was Pete Coop, followed closely by Peter Johnston. At Blackwall Reach mark, Peter was in front, with quite a big margin back to the remaining Sabres. Pete took the lead and was not headed. On the final beat to the finish, Ed Bannerman overtook Peter, while Chris Holyday, using his skills from Maylands in the tricky conditions, slipped into 3rd place. 2nd, 3rd and 4th finished within 20 seconds of each other, as the wind died. The planned second race was abandoned.
