The Sabres kicked off their 1st leg at TCYC Rockingham on Sunday 22nd November.
The wind ranged from 10-15 knots throughout the day, with the afternoon races gusting 17-18 knots which made for exciting reaches and tough upwind legs.
Unusually, the wind direction was blowing Northerly, swinging around to the West in the afternoon. This meant that the normal, Rockingham flat water was replaced with some interesting waves and swell.
The racing was incredibly close, with places changing on every leg.
17 Sabres entered with a high quality fleet.
Scott Olsen has returned to Sabres after a 12 month break, which is testimony to the appeal of this great boat.
We would like to acknowledge the brilliant race organisation delivered by Race Officer Alan Campbell and his team – yet again, as per last year, he got 4 races in with minimum delays and good courses.
In addition, I would to thank Commodore Kevin Sneddon for the warm welcome we received.
I would also like to thank our own WA support crew – Charlotte, Chelsea, Ryan, Laura, Linn and Kelly who following the morning races, stayed on shore to help recover the boats upon their return with an onshore breeze/waves on the beach. We also would like to thank Rob & Kathy Depiazzi for their effort in measuring sails, and making sure we were all complaint on the day and assisting with admin
We look forward to seeing you all for leg 2 at Nedlands next Sunday.
