Opening Day at EFYC produced light SEwinds, so we used one of our new courses (No 5), start to Millar, then via Mosman to the finish. 10 boats started, including 2 from PDSC.
After a General recall, the restart saw several boats start prematurely, The wind in the Reach was fickle, but filled in as we moved into Mosman Bay and Pete Coop took the lead around the Navigation marks, followed by Peter and Blair Mieklejohn. In the beat to Millar , the fleet split, with the lead changing as the wind shifted and varied in strength. Stacey Arnold went right into the Pt Walter shore and developed a commanding lead which he maintained to the finish. Pete Coop finished second, with Bruce Moorman, in only his first official race in third place. Blair was a close 4th, but was disqualified as he was OCD and Peter was next.
It was good to see that the fleet finished within 3/4 minutes of the first finishers. I think this will reflect the close racing we will experience this season
