There are 11 Sabres at Wallagoot Lake, though we usually only see 4 or 5 on any Saturday.
The two stars of the class are Terry Kirby (2067 "let the wind") and Neil Fisher (1539 "windsong"), who race closely on the water and often win trophies.
Neil appears to have better boat handling skills, keeping it flat and fast in strong, gusty conditions, while Terry gains tactical advantage comes out ahead in lighter and shifting winds. Morrie Lynch (423 "Nimbus") is a regular attendee, who has donated prizes for the top Sabres in both Pointscore (yardstick based) and Handicap series.
The club-owned boat 672 "Splice" gets regular action, with a variety of visitors, new members, juniors and visitors.
The Sabre sailors enjoy being the strongest class at the club. The stable shape of the hull, simplicity and general ease of sailing the boat is attractive to them. The guys rarely travel to regattas or events outside of the club. In fact there are a few that have lived in the clubhouse for decades and never met a road trailer in their lives. The club has its annual regatta 12-13 March 2016, all off-the-beach dinghies, multihulls and trailer-sailors welcome. For more info please see the website wlbc.org.au
