It is with great pleasure that Black Rock Yacht Club (Victoria, Australia) and the Victorian Sabre Asscoiation will be hosting the 2016 - 2017 Sabre National Championships.

Alex McKinnon Photography will be on the water for the races, taking still and video photography, on 28 December and the final on 3 January, as well as two suitable days between these dates. The RIB is being provided by the renowned Sabre sailor, Wayne Bates of WAB Projects and driven by our BRYC Sabre sailor, Warren Stahel.
Each photographic day, Alex will provide shots of the days racing and onshore activities to go on to the Club’s TV screen, on the Sabre and the Club’s website and on Facebook. She will also send out a photo essay to all major sailing media outlets including Sail World, Sailing Anarchy, MySailing, Scuttlebut and Australian Sailing.
At the end of the regatta, Alex will also send out a proof sheet to each competitor containing the photos that were taken of them. As well as the intense but friendly sailing competition at all levels on the waters of Port Phillip Bay, we have lined up a great social program.
We also have excellent prizes and auction items provided by our generous supporters. Please support them when in the Black Rock area or for your general sailing needs.
Harold Medd will shortly send directions to reach Black Rock Primary School, Arkaringa Cres where we have arranged trailer parking for the duration of the event. Cars can be free parked in the side streets off Beach Road, 5 minutes walk from the club. Drop your gear at the club, park up the hill and take a short stroll back to your boat.

For those new to the area, Port Phillip Bay is well known for its consistent sea breezes of 10 to 20 knots, and combined with the warm Australian Summer weather will provide perfect sailing conditions for all competitors. For those who wish to stay a little further a field from the club, hotel and apartment accommodation can also be located at St Kilda (8km's from Black Rock) and the Melbourne CBD (15km's from Black Rock). Both locations have a host of restaurants, cafes and other attractions to compliment your stay.
What to Do Around Black Rock
Black Rock Yacht club is located at Half Moon Bay in Victoria in between Beaumaris to the South and Sandringham to the North.
Half Moon Bay has one of Victoria most beautiful beaches which caters for families and those seeking the sun. The beach is well catered for with on site life guards and a take away shop providing all required feed and drink.
This location is also the site of Black Rock Yacht club which will be the host of the weeks racing.
Once you go further a field you will not go hungry, with the surrounding area providing a host of attractions including all levels of dinning from the local takeaway, family pub up to one/two hat restaurants.
Within 200 meters from the club you will find a boutique supermarket, home made ice cream shop (always useful in Australia summer) and a boutique Microbrewery (True South) providing well crafted meals and of course beer.
Further a field the area is also blessed with some of Australia's bet golf courses with Royal Melbourne and three other courses less than 5km away.
For those with family in tow, the Southland shopping centre also includes a movie complex to keep the family or sailor entertained, as well as a host of bars, eateries and of course shops across a 130,000 square meter complex.
For those who wish to head into Melbourne, the Sandringham railway station is 4 kilometers from Black Rock and provides direct access to the city and all its attractions.
From here you can visit a host of shops, cafes, bars, museums, and other attractions which make Melbourne a world renown city (refer the Victoria and Australia page).
Around Melbourne and Victoria
Once In Melbourne the club is locates 25 minutes from Melbourne city, the second biggest city in Australia and home to such events as the Australian Open tennis tournament and the Australian F1 GP. Melbourne is a strong cosmopolitan city with a breadth of shopping, nightlife and associated activities. It is well know as the Australian city with good coffee, fashion and food, including multiple 1,2 and 3 hat restaurants less than 20 minutes away.
Black Rock is also well catered for with multiple dinning areas including a micro brewery 1.2km from the club, in the heart of Black Rock. 10 minutes up the road is St Kilda which has a vibrant restaurant culture and weekly markets.
Two major shopping centres are located near by, both with over 100 outlets and all major departments stores represented. Travelers will not have to go far to grab a bargain.
Just 50 minutes from Black Rock is the Morningnton Peninsula which offers countless wineries, surf and bay beaches, local produce, horse back riding, Japanese hot springs and countless other activities a short drive from the club.
For those happy to travel a little further attraction such as Torquay and the world famous Bells beach are located 90 minutes from the club. Access is via 2 to 3 lane highways for the majority of the journey and the trip opens up countless further opportunities to explore around the Geelong district and the great ocean road.
To the North (70 minutes) is the Yarra Valley district with world class wineries and restaurants. Close by is the district of Hepburn which offers Natural Springs, Spa and relaxation retreats to appease even the most tired sailor.
